A terrible case of human indifference occurred a few years ago in Irkutsk. Residents of one of the wooden houses received an apartment in a new house as part of the resettlement. The happy newcomers moved into a cozy, warm apartment and probably felt that there was no place for anything old in their new home. Including their dog, which was already 14 years old.
A dog named Bim was simply left as unnecessary trash. The doors of the old housing were boarded up, and the dog had to live right on the street in the cold. And winters in Irkutsk are very severe. The dog spent whole days sitting at the gate, tucking his trembling paws and sadly peering into the faces of passers-by.
Residents of nearby houses, of course, fed the dog. The story caused a stormy response when a report was made about the dog on a local TV channel. After the release of the video, employees of the Irkutsk shelter for dogs «K-9» came to the dog’s habitat to save him from death in the bitter cold. Beam greeted the volunteers with a friendly tail wag. He did not resist at all when they put him in the car.
In a warm room, the dog warmed up and had a little fun. He was very kind and person oriented. In the shelter, the dog is warm and full. Despite his advanced age, he still has a chance to become a beloved pet dog.
The shelter staff said that such stories are not uncommon in their city (and in any other). Many people simply don’t realize that an animal is a big responsibility.
